Artistic and Stylistic Peculiarities in Tamar Meliskihsvili's Art (Major Trends in the Georgian Contemporary Visual Art)

Abstract

This master's thesis deals with Georgian painter Tarmar Meliqishvili's paintings of religious and other genres (XX c. 1990-2000 years). We compared her paintings with other artists of this period and demonstrated the main tendencies of modern Georgian art. We grouped Tamar Meliqishvili's pictorial paintings in a chronological order and manifested the evolution of her art over time. The drawings show the process of pictorial and stylistic investigations. In spite of this her whole art is characterized by distinct artistic and esthetic wholeness . According to artistic and stylistic analysis we singled out the characteristic features of her art: laconic resolving to compositions of paintings, artistic character, conditional language, expressing thoughts by signs and symbols, particular importance of colors, synthesis of drawing and painting.

The most important things in making composition are local colors, tonal spectrum of colors, the mostly used colors from this spectrum are blue, dark blue, sky-blue and pinkish tones. The drawings reveal that the painter is skillful and she created her own system of art. The paintings of artists in 1990-2000 reveals the tendencies that are common for most artists of this time and it creates a general picture of this period's art.
