Ana Chumburidze_2017Abstract
Abstract taken from the full text of the paper (PDF, page 85).The study named Technological Description, Restoration/Conservation and Examination of the Eastern Porcelain presents stylistic research and methods of restoration/conservation of the products of porcelain and ceramics protected at the eastern fund of Shalva Amiranashvili Museum at Georgian National Museum. The restoration/conservation, which has been established as an independent science since the 30s of 19th century, is still being developed and includes practical as well as theoretical works. The restoration and conservation means restoring and strengthening the damaged, deformed or fragmented exhibits and maintaining their historical and artistic value.
Restoration works are very effective, but maintaining the results of this work depends on the conditions of storages and exhibition halls of museums. The study covers the methods of restoration of Chinese and Japanese porcelain, its production history and ways of development. The MA thesis starts with an introduction and includes five chapters. The first chapter is about general overview of the history of ceramics. The second and third chapters cover the origin and technological development of Chinese and Japanese porcelain. The fourth chapter introduces the methods of restoration/conservation of the museum exhibits and how to protect them. The fifth chapter is all about the china restored by me – the exhibits protected at the Eastern Fund of Shalva AmiranaSvhili Museum.
